Floating Spheres Materials list

● 6mm & 3mm clear, the amount will vary depending on the size of the project.

● Light colored opaque glass. In the example, white, almond, taupe and cream were used.

● Clear powder frit.

● (Optional) Opaque powder frit. An alternative to using sheet glass for the blobs. 

● (Optional) Wispy glass in the same colors as the opaque glass. This can be used as an alternative to doing a melt for Project 1, the round piece. 

• Stainless steel ring or glass dams or equivalent.  
• 3mm fiber paper.
• Etching cream.
• Diamond coat hand sanding pads to smooth edges. A lap grinder can also be used. A 200 and 400 grit will do. 

To make the round piece that requires a high temperature melt: 

• The glass needs to be supported above the kiln shelf and melted through either high temperature nichrome wire 24-20gauge, long bead mandrels or long 304 stainless steel rods.  
• Large heavy kiln posts or equivalent are needed to support the rods or wires. 
• Shelf paper.
