This DIY glass cane chopper is my solution to hand soreness and fatigue from using standard nippers and it is a fraction of the cost of larger mechanical murrini choppers. It works well for glass cane and rods up to 3/8" in diameter and works somewhat like a guillotine. It is easy to build with readily available materials and basic tools. I provide detailed material lists, diagrams, recommended tools, info on testing and adjusting it and easy to follow step by step instructions with over 100 photographs. The instructions also include a catcher with a cutting gauge so cutting similar size pieces is easier.
It isn't necessary to use exactly the same size screws or bolts but keep in mind that some of them must fit through the "L" bracket holes.
The springs must be as described because if they are too loose the force may not be adequate to cut larger cane. If they are too stiff it may be difficult to raise the lever.
